Just Another Year

By Rogers Wanambwa

Last year to many was the worst in their lives. Jobs were lost, marriages broke, students lost a full of studies, and people lost their lives. In fact, entire livelihoods were lost due to the noval coronavirus that hit the world.

Do you know what is ironic?

Everything mentioned above is nothing out of the ordinary. Millions of people were or had already experienced all that.

But the world came to a standstill, what do you mean nothing was out of the ordinary?” You may ask.

For you, it may have been extraordinary, but there were people staying home already. There were unemployed people. There were children out of school. There were people dying before the Coronavirus pandemic.

Even during the pandemic, people were still dying of other causes. You get my point?

What is even queerer is how some people gained out of the pandemic. Millions of people found their services being needed more than ever. Social Media Influencers, Digital Marketers, Graphic Designers, Online Service Providers, Website Developers, Doctors and Nurses, Delivery people, Online Tutors, Online Entertainers and so on.

If you could provide an online service, chances were, your service was, and is needed right now than ever before.

See right there, an event occurred that changed the norm and some people gained while others lost.

Does this sound like a rare occurrence to you? Of course not. Because it isn’t.

Besides, some less than a thousand billionaires gained over a trillion shillings combined. To them, that was the best year of their lives.

Where am I going with this?

My point in all this is that there are no bad or good years. There are years.

Last year was simply just another year too.

If and when we start looking at life in this way, we cease being melancholy and losing hope because of downtime and start focusing on what is important.

That life is not static and we should live it the way it comes.

Most importantly though, we should be grateful for still being here. Do I hear a “That’s not enough to simply exist?

You are right! That’s we don’t lose hope around here. We count our losses if any and also pride in our achievements too.

Then, then, I repeated that for emphasis, we move and keep at the grind. We were given work before anything else by the good Lord after all.

Work is a gift, not a punishment.

Oh, I know. I also exclaimed when I first heard this. Did a double-take. But the Bible is clear. Work came before everything else we were given.

Besides, how will you dominate if you are not working? I have written a whole series on occupying the promised territory in the Occupy (series), check it out.

In conclusion, if you are to take away anything from here let it be that all that is happening is normal and that yours is not to lament about it, but to figure out how to concur it. You are here to concur, to dominate.

Notes:

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Genesis 1:28, KJV

So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. Genesis 2:20, NIV
